Feeling those middle-of-January blues? Frigid dawns, quiet evenings and ambitious resolutions might have you pegged squarely in the winter doldrums – but over at The Ranch, we’re still reliving the magic of the holiday season with spirited memories of 2023’s Granite County Festival of Trees, our third-annual event benefitting the Granite County Medical Foundation. The auction is always in honor of this worthy cause, and The Ranch counts itself lucky to be able to support it. But we’d be lying if we didn’t say it was more fun than it was work!

Each year, our generous community comes together to support the Granite County Medical Foundation and its long list of healthcare projects. From handmade holiday quilts and jewelry made with local sapphires to fishing getaways and more (including a coveted two-night stay at The Ranch), bidders at the auction had ample opportunity to make the festive season extra merry and bright, all while supporting an important pillar of the place we call home. And this year’s theme – Treasures of the Treasure State – made our hearts swell with pride and appreciation for the countless gems that make Montana a place to live like none other.

Whether you joined us at the Festival of Trees to bid big or simply gather ‘round the hearth with kith and kin, this year’s event was bursting with great food, wonderful community and an irrepressible sense of goodwill and gratitude. If you couldn’t join us, fear not – there’s still Christmas cheer to be found in the recap of this night of revelry.

Local Heroes

In a rural community full of hard-working ranchers and hard-playing outdoors enthusiasts, it’s crucial to have medical support for ailments big and small. It’s also important to have access to preventive treatment, volunteer ski patrol and healthcare experts committed to the citizens of our rugged corner of the world. That’s why we at The Ranch value the Granite County Medical Foundation as highly as we value our spirited excursions through the backcountry and beyond. Fortunately, we’re not the only ones who feel this way: The Granite Country Festival of Trees celebrated its tenth year of locals giving back!

Channeling that spirit of giving into a work of art is certainly easier said than done – but that didn’t stop our generous community from creating 14 individual holiday tableaus, each showcasing the treasures of Montana. Read on for a glimpse at the greatness.

Hooked on a Vibe – By Double Karma Co, Sponsored by The Broadway Hotel

Fish on! This fishing enthusiast’s dream lit up the Christmas spirit with a fishing-themed tree – and a fishing trip for two to the Oregon coast. Open the snack basket, crack a cold one, sit on your new custom bench next to your new fire pit and talk about fishing memories and future angling adventures.

Christmas Elk – By Half Toasted, Sponsored by Flint Creek Outdoors and Jackalope Java

This life-sized 7-point combined the magic of a traditional evergreen Christmas with our state’s majestic wild game. Admire that Christmas shoulder mount while processing your own wild game with a butcher basket of processing necessities, including a case of Philipsburg Brewing Company beer; then, curl up with an outdoor-inspired Christmas quilt and tuck into a great read.

Starry Wonders of the Treasure State – By and Sponsored By Blackfoot Communications

Montana is known for big blue skies and endless views, but the adventure doesn’t end when the sun goes down. As the sun sets over the majestic mountains, Montana’s pristine, dark skies offer the perfect backdrop to witness the marvels of our universe. Blackfoot’s flocked tree represents softly glimmering snow, an array of white and silver stars, sparkly garland that gracefully winds around tree resembling trails of stardust, and twinkling lights reminiscent of Montana’s jaw-dropping celestial beauty; all set on an upcycled cable spool reel table created by Blackfoot’s own Cyrus Bowman.

We look forward to being involved in the 2024 event, and with positive initiatives that support our friends and neighbors. We wish everyone in our community, both local and global, the merriest holiday season.
